Liverpool FC head of opposition analysis Greg Mathieson was born and raised in East Ayrshire, the home county of a certain Bill Shankly.

The Scot, who arrived at the club from West Ham United in January 2015, began his career as a teenager when he left home to study sports coaching and earned a coaching role at Dundee United.

Following four years at Tannadice, Greg crossed the border to join Sam Allardyce's backroom staff at Blackburn Rovers, aged 21. After three years with Blackburn, he followed Allardyce and his management team to West Ham in 2012.
