Liverpool's hopes of signing Mohamed Salah have been given a boost by reports claiming he has told Roma that he wants to move.

The Reds have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old Egypt international winger and attempted to sign him from Swiss outfit Basel in 2014, only for Premier League rivals Chelsea to win the race.

Salah failed to force his way into the Blues side and joined Roma on a permanent deal last summer for a reported 15 million euros fee after a successful season on loan with the Giallorossi.

His performances in Italy, scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions, have again alerted Liverpool to his qualities.

It was suggested at the end of last week that the Reds were not willing to meet Roma's 40 million euros asking price and a move looked dead in the water.

However, fresh reports from Italy are claiming the player has now told club officials that he wants a move and Anfield is his preferred destination.

Whether Roma will now lower their demands in order to get an unhappy player off the books remains to be seen, but the news will give Liverpool hope of securing a deal.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Mido has spoken out on the future of Salah and firmly believes his compatriot will move to Merseyside.

"Salah will definitely move to Liverpool," he said. "It's just a matter of time. "Liverpool’s style of play suits Salah perfectly and [Jurgen] Klopp's style suits him."
