Liverpool are reported to be stepping up their interest in James Rodriguez, who is still facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid.

Rodriguez struggled for regular action at the Bernabeu last season, but he still played an important role in Real’s title success when chipping in with eight goals and six assists from 13 La Liga starts.

However the Colombian ace did not figure on Saturday as Real defeated Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final in Cardiff, and it looks as though a move away will happen over the close season.

Reports have now claimed that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, held talks with Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez in Cardiff, and the future of Rodriquez was top of the agenda.

Manchester United have been heavily linked, as have Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, but now Liverpool have also been added to that list.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be looking at alternatives should he fail to land Mohamed Salah from Roma, and Rodriguez is said to be one of them, albeit a far more expensive one.
