Round-upFriday's internationals: Szoboszlai, Elliott and Koumas score, assists for Gakpo and Diaz
Dominik Szoboszlai netted a winner from the penalty spot for Hungary, while Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz were among the assists for the Netherlands and Colombia during Friday’s international fixtures.
Szoboszlai captained his country to a 1-0 home victory over Turkiye, dispatching a penalty in the 48th minute to settle the encounter.
The Liverpool midfielder found the bottom left corner of the net from 12 yards to extend Hungary’s unbeaten run to 13 games.
Gakpo, meanwhile, played a key role for the Netherlands alongside Virgil van Dijk – who helped keep a clean sheet for his nation in central defence – as they defeated Andy Robertson’s Scotland 4-0.
Gakpo laid on goals for both Tijani Reijnders and Georginio Wijnaldum in Amsterdam during the friendly win.
Elsewhere, Diaz featured for Colombia in their 1-0 victory over Spain in London, providing the key pass for Daniel Munoz’s second-half match-winning goal via a brilliant solo run and cross from the left flank.
Conor Bradley also picked up minutes for Northern Ireland, completing the full match in a 1-1 draw with Romania in Bucharest.
Earlier in the day, Harvey Elliott grabbed two goals to help England U21s to an impressive 5-1 victory.
The Liverpool midfielder opened the scoring 25 minutes into the Young Lions’ U21 European Championship qualifier away at Azerbaijan.
Elliott beat the offside trap at the back post to collect a cross from on-loan Reds teammate Tyler Morton and tuck a finish past the goalkeeper.
And, midway through the second half, Elliott was on target again as he dispatched from just outside the six-yard box.
The double makes it seven goals in the last five England U21 games for the 20-year-old.
Elliott was withdrawn on 75 minutes, while Jarell Quansah was an unused substitute.
At U18 level, Jayden Danns, Amara Nallo and Trey Nyoni all started for England too.
A goalless draw with Germany at the U18 Pinatar Super Cup was followed by a penalty shootout won 5-3 by England, with Danns converting his spot-kick.
For England’s Elite Squad (U20s), Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon and Reds loanee Luke Chambers were all second-half substitutes in a 5-1 win over Poland.
Lewis Koumas proved to be the match-winner on his Wales U21s debut, stepping off the bench to score in a 2-1 victory versus Lithuania in U21 European Championship qualifying.
In Philadelphia overnight, Alexis Mac Allister came off the bench in the 73rd minute of Argentina’s 3-0 friendly win against El Salvador.
