Marko Grujic endured a disappointing opening match at the U21 European Championship on Saturday evening, as Serbia were beaten 2-0 by Portugal.

The Liverpool midfielder started the game in Bydgoszcz, Poland but was unable to prevent his country from sustaining a loss that leaves them with much to do if they are to progress in the tournament.

Goncalo Guedes and Bruno Fernandes bagged the goals for the Portuguese in either half.

Grujic, who made eight appearances during a debut season with the Reds that was afflicted by injury, was taken off after 68 minutes.

Next up for Serbia is a clash with FYR Macedonia at the same venue on Tuesday.
