Liverpool U18s will look to return to winning ways when they face Everton in the mini-derby at Finch Farm on Saturday morning.

After suffering three consecutive defeats in all competitions, Steven Gerrard's side are determined to put things right against the Blues.

The young Reds are currently second in the U18 Premier League - four points behind leaders Manchester United, but with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Everton sit fourth, behind Liverpool and Manchester City on goal difference alone.

“It's a tough time at the moment after three defeats on the spin - which is not what I’m used to and what the group is used to - so it’s a good challenge for us and a good test. We've spoken to the players and told them to stand up and be counted when times are tough and we don’t want anybody hiding. We have told them to take responsibility for yourself first and foremost and also try to help other people around you. Then can we find the performance to stop the rot if you like, which is what I’m looking for.

"The signs have been good in training but we’ve got to be careful we don’t leave it on the training ground. In my experience of derbies, even going back to games I played at youth level, form goes out of the window and you always know the first 10 to 15 minutes is going to be a battle and frantic. My players have to enjoy it, stand up, bring it on, don’t go shy and go in your shell and take that responsibility of playing in a Merseyside derby.”

"We can't wait for Saturday morning because we want to try and get back to winning ways. The team have been training hard, we are desperate to win and we all know how important a game this is.

"We have done well up until now and hopefully the defeat against Stoke City last week was the kick in the backside we needed to get us to bounce back.

"This is big game for us against Everton and it's time to shine."
