Liverpool U19s missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Volksbank Cup following a win and a draw on day two of the tournament in Stemwede, Germany on Friday.

After going down 1-0 to Hamburg and drawing 1-1 with Stuttgart in the first two 40-minute contests on Thursday, the Reds produced an outstanding performance in the day’s opening game to give them hope of a last-four berth.

Toni Gomes struck a hat-trick before Liam Millar netted to help them to a convincing 4-0 victory over Galatasaray.

That set up a must-win clash with SV Rodinghausen FC, whom Neil Critchley’s side needed to defeat in order to book a semi-final spot.

However, despite Gomes having a strike ruled out for offside, Liverpool dropped out of the tournament with a goalless draw.

The Reds had been aiming to repeat their success of 2015, when they lifted the Volksbank Cup by beating FC Nurnberg on penalties, but it was not to be this time around.
